Lineage AmStaffs is a small kennel located in sunny Fort Myers Florida with an admiration for the American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier.
My dogs are pets above all, they live in the house with myself and my two children and can often be found taking up far too much room on our couches or beds.
I have owned APBTs for 13 years now though I have yet to produce a litter.
I am also a member of the:
Please consider joining your National Breed Club(s). Besides us, the owners, they are the last stand between our purebred dogs and the world.I am currently involved in the conformation aspect of dual registered American Pit Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers.
Yes, I firmly feel the AKC and the UKC standards are similar as they were written for the exact same dogs--no matter what you're looking at in the show ring today those were the facts of it then and still should be now.
I keep dual registration as much for one more venue in which to compete as for the history of the registries and the breed--though I chose the AKC registered AST, specifically, due to the higher instance of consistency in correct type I saw as compared to the UKC.
As time and money permit I'll be adding in other things, such as rally and agility.
Temperament is first at LAST, always! It is not enough to simply say the dogs are sweet. There is so much more to true breed temperament than sweetness.
True breed temperament means you will have a highly intelligent dog with plenty of drive and trainability. Fearless, capable, happy to be anywhere, and willing to continue on even after a long day of activities.
Along with true temperament, it is important to me to have dogs that can perform a variety of tasks with success. Their versatility should be their biggest showcase. I want dogs that are able to walk into a show ring as well as compete in a multitude of activities with gusto and stamina.
Add in consistency of type, with emphasis on form following function, and a clear understanding of the actual dog--not just words written on paper to form a standard--you have what this breed should be.
I do not believe the breed standard is subject to "opinion", nor that it should hold within it many different 'types' of one breed.
The standard was written by dog people for dog people with the thinking that we would understand why things are the way they are first and foremost.
I do not select dogs for the show ring alone as it is simply the place to showcase a breeding program and should not have the last say in which dogs continue their genetics.
I hope you enjoy your stay here and come back soon! :-)
